Day 88 = April 1
Ah the beautiful Prague! That almost seemed like an overstatement at first. We got off the train at about 9:30 in the morning. We had been told all these stories about how beautiful Prague was and how it was such a great city. When we first walked out of the train station, it was not what I expected, then as we walked to our hostel we were walking through very clean part of the city and so out first impression of the city was not real great. We got checked into our hostel and laid down on our beds and Amanda and I were both out. We ended up sleeping for a few hours. After we got up we went and found something to eat. After that we went out and started to explore the city. We walked along the river and go some really cool pictures of the Charles Bridge and of the castle. The Charles Bridge was build from 1357 to just after the turn of the 1400’s, and for over 400 years was the only way to cross the Vltava River. It is one of the oldest bridges in the world and has stood the test of time because during WWII, tanks were driven across it and it is still standing today. After we walked across the bridge we walked up to the Prague castle. The Prague castle, according to the Guinness book of World Record, is one of the biggest ancient castles in the world. It has been modernized over the
years and is not what most would think of as a castle. The castle today is still the location of royal residents and part of the government. In the middle of the castle stands a fairly big gothic style cathedral with many human like gargoyles on the side of it, which is one thing that is unique to the cathedral. We walked through the castle since it did not cost to enter and we found this little back corner to the castle that had these old little shacks that were all painted different colors. They looked like something that came out of the medieval times. After we were done walking through the castle we went to the edge of the castle and enjoyed the view of the city since the castle sits on one of the highest points in the city. After that
we just went and walked around some more down in the city. We found a Tesco and got some pasta for supper and went back to the hostel and crashed early for the night.
